As part of a course in shapechanging interfaces we created a floating lamp that reacts on the users movements. The lampe consists of a bottom base part and an upper bulp and lampshade part. The upper part is resting on the lower when turned off. When a user approaches, the upper part levitates 2-3cm above the lower part. At the same time the bulp lights up. When the user leaves, the upper part slowly floats back in place and the bulp is turned off.
We created two different versions. One with a glass sphere top and black cotton base
And one with a wooden top and wooden base
